Introduction to Hypothyroidism
Many peoples thinks hypothyroidism is a female disorder. Still, research has shown that 3 out of 10 males also suffer from hypothyroidism.
It occurs in males when the thyroid gland does not work appropriately and produces very low or not enough thyroid hormones. It leads to a slower metabolism and is also associated with other health issues like obesity, diabetes, heart problems, brain fog, and erectile dysfunction.
Major Cause of erectile dysfunction and male breast enlargement is the result of an underactive thyroid gland in male.
Common Cause of Hypothyroidism in Males
Hashimoto's hypothyroid is an autoimmune condition in which the own immune system mistakenly attacks the healthy organs of the body like the thyroid, gut, reproductive organs, etc.
Surgical removal of the thyroid gland because of any health condition.
The presence of hypothyroidism since birth is Congenital hypothyroidism
Radiation therapy on the neck or thyroid gland.
Some medications also affect the production of thyroid hormones.
Insufficiency of iodine in diet or insufficiency of iodine absorption in the thyroid gland.
Thyroid glans produce only two hormones on the command of the pituitary gland. One is triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). The thyroid produces T4 in large amounts, and later, T4 gets converted into an active form of a T3 hormone and maintains the balance of thyroid hormones.
Functions of thyroid hormones
