Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder that affects many women in their reproductive age. Its symptoms are the presence of cysts on the ovaries, irregular menstrual cycles, and high levels of androgens (male hormones) in the body especially in the abdomen region. While PCOS primarily affects the hormonal system of the body and primarily damages the reproductive system, the thyroid is also a hormonal gland that secreta T3, T4, and TSH hormones due to hormonal imbalance in the body it also gets affected and is unable to do its normal function and diagnosed as the thyroid dysfunction.

Thyroid Dysfunction and Metabolism

The thyroid gland plays a crucial role in regulating metabolism normally, energy production, and maintaining overall hormonal balance. It produces the hormones triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4), which control the body's metabolism and contribute to various bodily functions like regulating the temperature of the body, appetite regulation, and maintaining the muscle mass of the body.

This further keeps secreting the cortisol stress hormone that worsens the situation and becomes an obstacle to leading a healthy and normal life.
