PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome) is a complex hormonal and metabolic disorder with various underlying factors, and the relationship between weight and PCOS is not the same for everyone. PCOS can affect any reproductive female. Only obese females don't need to have PCOS/PCOD. 20% of females who are suffering from PCOS are lean and thin.
So every obese female doesn't need to have PCOS/PCOD. But those females are obese and suffering from PCOS/PCOD Losing weight can be an effective solution for managing the symptoms of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) or Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD), especially for individuals with PCOS who are overweight or obese.
Benefits of losing a weight in PCOS/PCOD:
Improved Insulin Sensitivity: Insulin resistance is one of the most common problems with PCOS, which can lead to elevated insulin levels and lead you to weight gain. Losing weight with the help of a balanced diet with optimal physical activity can improve insulin sensitivity and help regulate blood sugar levels.
Regulated Menstrual Cycles: Maintaining a healthy weight can help restore ovulation by reducing the androgen level in the body, and decreasing the androgen level helps regulate the menstrual cycles in women with PCOS. It also helps in increasing the chances of fertility for those trying to conceive.
Reduction in Androgen Levels: Reducing weight is indirectly connected with the androgen level in the body. Weight loss can lead to a decrease in androgen (male hormone) levels in the body, which can help reduce symptoms like acne, hirsutism (excessive hair growth), and male-pattern hair loss.
Lowered Cardiovascular Risk: Maintaining a healthy weight can reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications associated with PCOS, such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
Improved Quality of Life: Weight loss often leads to improved self-esteem and overall well-being, as individuals experience relief from PCOS-related symptoms and gain more confidence about their physical appearance. that helps calm the mind and increase the potential fertility challenges.
However, it's important to note that weight loss is not a one-size-fits-all solution for PCOS. because apart from excessive weight PCOS women face many other problems which lower their self-esteem and make them feel doubt about themselves.
